It’s ok to get support for things that “should be” easy
The ways we talk to ourselves matters.
Starting and completing tasks can be difficult with ADHD - this can lead to piles of things that we need - maybe even want! - to get done without the oomph to tackle them. As the piles grow or loom bigger over our heads we can also experience feelings of shame, heaviness, guilt, and more.
Reframing task initiation and completion as issues around executive functioning can be helpful. Recognizing that starting and finishing tasks isn't a linear process for many with ADHD gives us space to find the skills and methods that work the best for us.
Working with ADHD is not a one size fits all approach, it's about building a toolbox that works for us - with lots of options for when our tried and true method isn't working.
As a fellow ADHD'er, I hold space with you around the things that "should be" easy - because they're not. If they were easy, we'd get them done - because living with a cloud of guilt around a task that's not completed is not a restful or joyful way to pass the time.
